how to hack the brisbane city council library catalog pc's

well for some reason brisbane city council went way overboard in stopping people from accessing the net on the pc's just for viewing the catalog over the internet. we all know that the internet wants to be free. the ways they stop the spread of the internet on the broswer terminals is to not allow you to access the address bar. it is unchangeable. all the good stuff in ie that you hate with a vengence because we use firefox are missing. eg you can't save, load, change anything nor copy paste or change any of the tool bars. i'd take a screenshot of what it has but that has also been disabled. this is just in the browser, but for the operating system, it has no start button. tho it does have the task bar so thats a good thing.

now getting back to allowing you to go to any webpage out on the net via this terminal is easy. just do a search that will turn up no results and it comes up with a handy link. asking you if you want to do a google search. that is such a handy link to leave lying around the place and in doing so has foiled their plans of locked down pc.

hope you have fun. its easy to make a list of stuff you look at regurlay or even just to google the address you want.

The Waterfall model

Hmm, it’s interesting that when you apply for a programming job, they ask you if you know the waterfall model. Quite strange but because I have not been in a position where people come to me asking me to make something on a scrap piece of paper I didn't know that it’s a big thing. So all those subjects just covering the model were not lost. Darn it was so boring too, if they told us that we would need this info for getting a job, I might have remembered more of it instead of brain dumping it to the computer so I can think better on programming in other languages, eg C#, java, scheme and recently XQuery.

A Tree That peeled like a banana when hit by lightning

They said that the tree is waxy and smooth to the touch.

Read more via : Boingboing
(Thanks to Eric and Mark and Menarique)

Just in this topic it seems that trees that have been struck by lightning do not burn and also are very difficult to cut down as that are as hard as anything. this is because solids don't actually burn, its the gas that burns. seems the theory is that wood that has been struck has its volatitles evaporated from it so that there is nothing to burn from it. this is also a tree dies from the strick as there is no fluids giving their nutrience to the leaves.

XQUERY why with the fortran??

i have no idea why people love this language. i'm guessing it came from people liking SQL and Scheme. with a bit of java thown in just for kicks. i'm starting to hate how the internet documentation on XQuery is rather lacking in some parts, such as how do i do dynamic tags??? also how do i change what the elements have stored when doing more than 2 querys one after the other??

Animation based on spam filter-busting text via BoingBoing

The brother's McLeod have created another creepy/cool cartoon short that uses the spam filter-breaking text that hideous spammers add to the bottom of their junk mail.

easter holidays where did they go???

well its been a week and i have no idea where those holidays went :( i wish i could have had more time to just be lazy. instead i cleaned the house. worked and did minimal study as well as hanging out at a friends house and seeing sunshine. sunshine was a good movie. :)

tho the noise they included kinda sucks because if you are in a vaccum. you would not hear anything unless you were connected to the structure that was getting blasted by heat of the sun.

the day the world collapsed

well last monday i tried to get my new 320gb hard drive formatted. but my comptuer would not complie. then when i put it into my brothers it worked. so then i had another problem. what was in my comptuer that was making the format crash and not making windows crash. well the problem was my ram and motherboard would give erratic errors. eg if left on for more than 2 hours memtest 64 would find errors in the first 10sec but if the comptuer was left off for a couple of hours then turned on. then memtest 64 would not find any errors and windows would boot normally. so now i have brought a new motherboard and ram and had a bit of a scare trying to get the old cpu off the old motherboard and onto the new motherboad.

the problem was that after 3 years being together they did not want to come apart. so when i pulled off the heatsink the cpu came with it. right out of the slot :O:O:O. and it sould not come off with my finger nail betweenthe heat sink and cpu. so i had to use a screw driver flat heard to nudge it off. which worked :) only prob was the the cpu came off and fell 30cm onto some plastic pin's first :O. so i tried to put it into its slot but it would not fit because 1 pin was bent. so i had to carefully get the twisers out and with my hands shaking from all the scares bend the pin back. then it fited :).

i put the comptuer back together again and left the drives unconnected and booted up memtest to run when i was at work and it came up with 0 errors :) for 8+hours.

my next problem is formatting a drive with xp without the xp cd ;)

i'll find a way.

extra work from no where.

now heres something you don't see everyday. my work had me rostered for only 4 hours this week. but i have been chatting to one of the higher ups about my position and it seems i have accidently been stranded between 2 departments which leaves me in a bit of a spot. because of it, i'm back to causal rates and also no hours. i'm use to 20 hours a week, well not working them persee but the cash flow from those hours. and its the middle of the week. wednesday and i get a phone call from work asking if i could work. well of course i say yes. and then i get 26hours + the 4 hours i work at darra. so i'm over the moon but i bet my body will be on the floor sleeping by the end of the 4 day hike.
